Fallout 4 received record sales figures.
Now it could be that a lot of people bought the game that didn't end up liking it I suppose. That leads to the question, since the majority of the sales were through Steam, and they have a guarantee on the game why didn't the haters return the game for a refund?
Then there's the fact that FO4 broke the record for the number of people playing a Non-Valve game on Steam.
Maybe that was just a bunch of people figuring out that they hated the game all at the same time? If that's the case, that's quite a coincidence. No one doubts that it sold a lot, with that level of hype it should of done, what people aren't happy about is that fact that they paid for an RPG and didn't get one, they paid for a Fallout game and instead got a poor mans Far Cry. Let's not confuse sales with quality, Justin Bieber sells a lot of records, McDonalds sell a lot of food, thats doesn't mean any of it is any good. The games problems take more than 2 hours to show themselves, people can't refund after that, if I could refund it I would.
Dark0ne posted the download numbers for the period between Skyrims release and the CKs release, the numbers were pretty steady, the numbers for Fallout 4 are on a constant downward slope, that is backed up my Steamspys player numbers which show that it's gone a from a massive high to around the level of Skyrim, sometimes even lower. Look at gaming sites away from the Nexus and Beths forums, the game is rarely mentioned and when it is it's seldom anything positive.
QuoteIt also has consistently high reviews pretty much across the board.
Bethesda is calling it their most successful title to date, and the numbers support that. It's the lowest rated Fallout game on Steam, below Fallout 3 and Tactics.
QuoteSo anyway my point it that there are all the indications that Fallout 4 is an excellent game; and my personal feeling is that it is the best game that Bethesda has ever made . . . so why do I see so much more negative things about the game on the various forums than I see positive things? Are the others who love the game afraid of being called Bethesda Apologists? Are they intimidated by the vitriol of those who hate it? Let's face it, some of the FO4 haters are . . . violently opposed to the game.
Why is it an excellent game? I've noticed those who say that never say why, instead they dismiss those with genuine concerns as "haters", classic post purchase rationalisation.

Yes exactly.
Good news. True Storms was converted over REALLY fast. Maybe that means once we have CK, other fantastic Skyrim/FNV mods will be converted over easily, making it a much better game
I wasn't a fan of Fallout 3 either, I got as far as Megaton and hit ALT+F4, I hated it and never come back to it for a about a year. Since going back after that year I've clocked up 100's of hours all thanks to mods, it's still a terrible RPG but with the right mods it's a fun game, I'm hoping FO4 is like that in a years time.

Season passes are a joke, and honestly I feel they milk more money out of peole than the people save.
I might be being overly cynical here but I think they knew the game wasn't very good and used a season pass to get as much money up front as possible.

Look Poses
Look Poses.
This is something I threw together quickly to make the dialogue shots in my comic strips seem a little more natural, all these "poses" do is angle the head in various directions, it makes it easier to get NPCs to look at each other in shots, it's also handy for conversation shots between short and tall characters. These are far from fantastic but they do a job. I made these for something I was doing but now they're made I might as well share them in case anyone else finds a use for them.

The character on the right is the player character.
Install:
Drop the contents of the rar file into your game folder and enable with the manager of your choice.
Uninstall:
Delete the esp and the "Jims" folder from Meshes\characters\_Male\idleanims
Idles:
Up1
Up2
Down1
Down2
Left
right
UpRight
DownRight
Upleft
DownLeftTo use:
For the player character go into third person, open the console, type TFC and hit enter, now type Player.playidle xxxx (xxxx) being the name of whatever pose you want, for
example to look left enter player.playidle left. To reset the pose use player.playidle reset.
For NPCs, face the NPC, open the console, click on the NPC so their name appears at the top of the screen, type TLIK to turn off the head tracking, then playidle xxxx, again with the xxxx being the name of the pose you want to use, to put them back to normal use playidle reset on them.
These can be used with facial expressions, just be sure to do the facial expressions first, they cannot be used with other poses.

No, what you are waiting for is a mature modding community to come along and rework the game the way it should have been. Then have Anatriax come along and make a massive tutorial on how to get all them installed and working smoothly...
Just say'in. ;).
For me it would need remaking from the ground up, it's something that would take modders years and given the way player numbers have fallen off a cliff I'm not holding out much hope . Earlier titles all had a foundation to build on, I wouldn't even know where to start with Fallout 4, the dialogue system is as good as non existent, there are no skills, there's no reputation system, the AI is actually worse than FO3/NV, I'm struggling to think of anything positive. The basics of an RPG aren't there and it'll take a mammoth effort to put them in.

I had to force myself to finish Fallout 4's main quest, long before it was finished I was sick of being sent from one shooting gallery to the next. I started a new game, this time I thought I'd try being an evil character, it didn't take long before I realised that you can't play a different character evil or otherwise, you can only play the one Bethesda created, sure you can change the appearance and gender but it's still the same concerned parent, with the same voice.
You can't express your character through dialogue because it's so limited, you can't express it through actions because the lack of a reputation system means nothing you gets noticed or matters and you can't express it by creating a different kind of build, the replacement of skills with level restricted perks means you'll be a jack of all trades.

I agree a bit of talent and great attitude is always welcome here. As for the skill set... perhaps as we grow we can implement some tutorials to help with increasing skill-sets for those that wish to have this. I also see some of the more experienced members chiming in to help those starting off with some tips and hints to help them along.
As for adding to the place, you are doing great. Adding screenshots where someone that comes here can see what can be done is very useful. An easy way to add more is to help some of the members that might be trying to replicate your photos follow your mod list and such so that can also get such beautiful results as well.

Take it from me... I only fired up GECK a hand full of times and really didn't to much with it when I did... Same goes with nifscope. I am familiar with them but haven't used them. I almost exclusively supplied support to users in resolving their modding issues. Trust me, that alone helps greatly. Helps the site, and helps the mod content creators focus on their craft and continue working on their mods instead of heavy support. They can watch the thread for reported / confirmed bugs and go back to work.. ;).
It's not so much a lack of skills, I cannot get my head around 3d modeling but I'm alright with most other things, it's more a lack of time, organisation and motivation.
I started one a little while ago, it was going to be an 80s bar for New Vegas, it would have been as lore friendly as dragons but I've never much cared for that. I created a worldspace and did the exterior, then I made a start on the interior, retextured a bunch of stuff and then thought I'd better do the music before I do anything else, that's when I met the horror that is New Vegas's audio system. I was expecting it to be the same as Oblivion and Fallout 3, create a music set and then have the cell play tracks from the set randomly.
I won't go into detail but it involves creating media sets, attaching them to a media controller and then an audio marker, that marker has three levels of sound set to play at various distances from it, there are other settings in the there that screw everything up, this is on top of the already buggy audio and the problem with MP3s over 192kps not playing properly. I had 100 tracks ready, I soon gave up, I wasn't going to go through that hell for each track, especially when the mod would have had to have been a private share because of the music, the final straw came when the game was still playing Culture Club while I'm back in the wastes fighting the Legion.

Good to see familiar faces here.

Thanks, I'm more or a screenshot person than a modder so I'm not sure how much I'll be adding to the place.

The Island
Requires the assets from http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/42835/?. You don't need to have its esp enabled, just the assets in your game.
General stuff...
This is graphically intense and may suffer from low frame rates on lower spec machines, your game must be 4GB enabled.
The entrance is a trap door between the Goodsprings pub and store.
The Navmesh isn't perfect but there are no real serious problems.
There are invisible walls around the rocks to keep NPCs from getting stuck on them.
If you use a mod that adds rain then it will rain indoors, this is an engine issue present since Morrowind
NMM will tell you this is an ESM, the master flag was set to correct navmesh oddities.
The lights are on a timer, if you first arrive at night and everything is dark then wait 24 hours, that will get the script started and the lights will switch on and off as intended after that.
The evenings are slightly longer than standard, I'm a sucker for sunsets.
This mod is released "As is", no further development will be happening, you are however free to improve upon it.

Precious Companion
This adds a companion called "Precious" to the Goodsprings pub, those who freqent the Nexus New Vegas Imageshare will probably know who she is. Those who don't can find out by going to my profile picture tab over there, there you'll find plenty of pictures as well as comics and links to larger comics. Not that you need to know anything about her to use her.
Requirements.
Mojave Delight by Glosshouse.
Eyelashes New Vegas by Throttlekitty.
(Optional) Mojave Delight Coolhair Replacer will improve hair texture.Suggested sources for clothing....
Kristinas Closet for Type 3 and Breeze by jonas
Rivens Goodsprings Vendor_Plus Mannequins
Installation...Install the two required mods, the esps don't have to be enabled but the assets must in your game.
Drop the esp from this into your data folder.
Enable the esp from this with the manager of your choice, not the games own launcher, it's crap.
Travel to the Goodsprings Pub and she'll be wondering about in there. To Uninstall...
Delete the esp.
That's it.FAQ...
Q, Does she have a companion Wheel?
A, Yes and it works.Q, Why is NMM/FOMM/My cat telling me it's ESM when the extension says ESP?
A, The master flag is set to avoid a possible head/body texture mismatch that can happen with custom NPCs.Q, Is she also playable?
A, Yes but she only has one set of eyes and hair, you'd have to add more if you want a different look.Q, Is she voiced?
A, No, being a guy I can't do it and my better half being as supportive as ever didn't want to know.
Credits....cgy95 for his great Video tutorial
Rexus3, Brigand231, FastBlackCat and Angrod88 for testing.
Glosshouse and Throttlekitty for assets that make this possible.
And a special shout out to all those in the imageshare who over the last two years plus have commented, supported and endorsed my stuff, you guys have been great.
Permissions: Ask, I'll probably say yes, I just don't want her turned into a mutant or hooker.

The fallout from Fallout 4 (Discussion Thread)
in Fallout 4 General Discussions
Posted
Hopefully, like I said earlier I'll give it a year and then come back, I'm not happy because I paid Bethesda £40 to entertain me, I didn't pay them £40 so a year down the line modders might do it. I only have myself to blame, I should never have brought the thing, the prerelease control freakery from Bethesda had alarm bells ringing in my head, it looked like they had something to hide or weren't confident in their product, I didn't pre-order because of that, what I did a few days way to buy it on the recommendation of a friend, he has since apologised.
