    Spoiler

The more I look at this situation and others that are similar, it's fanboys and shill staff members on forums who are the vocal minority and want to dismiss valid criticism of games, developers and publishers.  Get away from the game forums and go to Reddit, 4Chan or Youtube and you'll see a different perspective.  If left to Nexus or Lover's Lab, games like FO4 and ME Andromeda would be smash hits and GOTY material.  Yeah, FO4 got some half-assed lowercase 'goty' pusillanimous accolade.  Bethesda, 2015's King of the Mercy Fuck.

Now I see the same thing happening in the GTA5 community.  Fanboys and shills are somehow defending T2's dick move.  It's fucking surreal.

I think T2 did this because they've sold all of the game units they think they need to sell and mods are doing what mods do; giving the game longevity.  If people are stuck on a modded GTA5 single player experience they have no reason to bother with the online version OR buy micro-transactions.  T2 wants more money and they think killing GTA5 modding will make that happen.  Anyone with common sense knows it won't since gamers are a fickle bunch and we'll turn on a developer/publisher like a pack of rabid hyenas if they fuck with our games...or if they hype and then deliver a shit product.  AC Unity, Valve Paid Modding, FO4 and ME Andromeda are prime examples gamers not taking the assfucking corporations think we should.

Mark my words, Bethesda's 'Starfield' won't be the old modding experience.  If T2 gets away with this modding prohibition it will set an industry precedent.  And if the Bethesda Creation Club thing doesn't die on the vine they will make a move to control or limit Starfield modding.

  2. For those of you who care about such things, here is the Court's full opinion.  Skip down to about page 32 for the judgements of Justices Alito and Kennedy.

One aspect of this case that hasn't hit the media yet (if it ever does) is the connection between Federal funding for colleges and universities and those institutions inhibiting or in some case prohibiting Constitutionally protected free speech.  The government could stop federal subsidies for institutions that are not in compliance or withhold student grants and loans associated with those institutions.  Basically 'You can stop free speech but we're not giving you any money if you do, and we won't give kids grant money if they go to your school.'

  3. In an AP wire report, a Supreme Court ruling on Monday 20.06.2017 reaffirms that 'offensive speech' is Constitutionally protected free speech.  The unanimous 8-0 ruling is a major victory for those with dissenting opinions.  Basically the ruling boils down to 'you might not like what I have to say but I have the right to say it' AND the U.S. Government doesn't have 'speech' as defined by the Constitution.  Not only will this affect trademarks as in the context of the case, but the ruling can also be applied to state and local governments trying to enact 'no hate speech' or 'anti-cyber bullying' legislation.

    MY OPINION

    Spoiler

In the context of on-line communities, safe spaces and personal preferences as moderation tools are already out-of-date concepts.  NSFWMods never took on the mantle of sheepherder in an effort to protect members' feelings or to shield them from the internet at-large.  We are part of the storm, not a safe harbor from it.  The Supreme Court ruling reinforces our preexisting stance on the behavior standards of the NSGWMods membership; aside from a few baseline rules to keep the site running smoothly, we don't have behavior standards.  Freedom of speech and expression are key elements to what makes NSFWMods what it is; a 180 degree pivot from the established politically correct staff directives and their forum culture.

  4. The recent scuttlebutt I heard is that Pete Hines overplayed Bethesda's involvement in the Creation Club process.  Modders aren't getting developer input or assistance.  Basically you create a mod and submit it and Bethesda either approves it or they don't.  That's the process in totality.  So realistically it is paid modding with official vetting and Bethesda claiming rights over anything submitted.

SO, if a Creation Club member makes a mod a Bethesda rejects it, can the modder still upload it as a free mod or does Bethesda bin it and it's gone forever?  And what happens to the modder if they upload their own version anyway?  I'd love to get a look at the e-contract Bethesda asks club members to agree to.  It probably has a many holes in it as a CNN Russian conspiracy theory.

  5. Well, unlike a Bethesda product Witcher3 doesn't 'need' mods.  Aside from the Console Command mod and the CDRed officially sanctioned ENB I didn't have any mods for it.  The game looked great and played as intended on its own.  IF I could add quests and NPCs to Witcher3 like I can a Bethesda game I'd uninstall Skyrim and never look back.

Back on topic; I don't think Bethesda understands the ramifications of what happened at E3 2017.  Before the show they were 'okay'.  A few days after the show people are tired of their bullshit.  Bethesda is milking Skyrim and FO4 and their fans (former or otherwise) are hip to what's going on and they DO NOT like it.  I think a real hit will happen when people outside of NSFWMods have the same Epiphany we had; Bethesda is moving to micro-transactions and the nickle-and-dime scams of Activision, Ubisoft, EA and Konami.

If 100 Bethesda-buck 'credits' cost $1.00 US that means a fucking gun retexure any asshole can make and upload to Nexus costs 2 bucks.  So how long will Bethesda allow sites like Nexus to bite into their nickle-and-dime profits?

And when Starfield is released will there even be a free Creation Kit for it?  They have already stopped work on the Skyrim Special Edition CK and frameworks like SKSE do not work with the 64bit version of the game.  They haven't updated the FO4 CK either.

Conspiracy Theory Time!  What Bethesda is doing (or not doing) is by design.

    • At inception, Bethesda.net was intended as a storefront for something like the Creation Club.
    • Skyrim Special Edition has the same EULA as FO4; they state Bethesda owns anything made with or that contains their IP.  The Skyrim 32bit license doesn't have that stipulation.
    • Updates for the Creation Kits for Skyrim SE and FO4 have stopped.

Attila the Hun has amassed his horde at the eastern reaches of the Roman Empire...but he's not going to invade.  That's how Bethesda fans are looking at this Creation Club situation.

  6. CDProjektRed only needs to do two things to kick Bethesda off of the 'you can mod it therefor it is a good game' throne.

Cyberpunk 2077; play as a female character and they release a modding kit to where the players can actually mod the game like they can (or could) mod a Bethesda one.  If ProjektRed does those two things Bethesda modding will take a critical hit.

  7. OFF TOPIC :D

    Spoiler

On some forums their outlook on modding and moderating is as outdated as their forum software.  Evidently they 'now what they're doing' so fuck'em.  I've been around long enough to know that once the 'modding elite' and their fan bases infest a site it starts alienating people and they either leave or stop participating.  Cases in point, the old Elric, CanadianIce, and HoundDog forums.  Those sites went down the elitist path and where are they now?  Who has even heard of them?  Yeah, exactly.

NSFWMods will never be that kind of site.  Here, everyone is equally worthless and no one is special.  I guess that's why more modders don't upload here, even though we have a vastly superior upload system and user interface than some other sites.  And modders aren't going to get the vapid external validation here some of them crave.  AND we're not a 'social media' site that draws forum spammers and fanboys...and thank God for that.

Bethesda modding already has a taint on it after FO4.  Sites like Nexus and Lover's Lab where any half-baked bullshit that someone uploads is considered 'a mod' is part of the reason.  The low standards and conditioned expectations of 'the community' is another.  Bethesda inserting themselves into the scene isn't going to help things along or improve mod quality.  The Creation Club is a way for them to make money off of an existing free market, just like it was in 2015 and the Valve paid modding scheme.  The next step in this progression will be Bethesda pulling a T2/GTA5 modding prohibition.  That's coming, probably as soon as Starfield, if not sooner.

  8. If anyone wants to help out with adding Live Another Life compatibility to the mod they can start by doing some investigating into to what it takes.

Questions that need to be answered:

    • Are there tutorials on how to do it?
    • How difficult is it to do?
    • ETC.

I don't use LAL, but I know what it does.  That being said I know nothing about how it works or how to make a mod use it as an alternate start.  I already have my hands full working on the base mod and I don't want to divert attention away from that to research another mod I don't use.  I'm willing to add a LAL start patched esp for the mod but I'm not willing to do all of the work to make it happen.

  9. Something else to consider about this 'Creation Club' thing; competition between modders and the death of sharing.  There is already a trend in the Bethesda 'community' where some modders won't share what they know.  This is especially true of scripting.  There was a time where knowledgeable modders wrote tutorials, shared how they did things, etc.  Outside of a few exceptions that's rare these days.  Money really isn't in the equation right now but it will be with the Creation Club.  Motivated by money, why would a modder share anything when he can submit it to the Creation Club and get paid for something no one else has or knows how to do?

By trying to profit off of the modding scene, Bethesda will cripple one key aspect of it.  Well, it's already crippled by some modders not willing to share what they know, so Bethesda is basically grabbing a shotgun and blowing the legs off of an already crippled modding scene.

  10. I can see Bethesda giving 'Creation Club modders' a one time pay out and then just taking their work and submitting as Bethesda IP.  The game licenses for both FO4 and Skyrim Special Edition clearly state Bethesda owns anything made with their development tools or that uses their assets.  There wouldn't be a need for an advanced Creation Kit since Bethesda can just take anything submitted to them, use developer code and mechanics only they have access to, and release the mod as a micro-transaction.

Bethesda takes player ideas and uses them freely anyway.  The mechanics and scripting for fully functioning followers made by Oblivion modders ended up in FO3.  The 'Weapon Mods' idea from a FO3 modder ended up in New Vegas as part of the base game.  MY SCRIPTING for the lap dancers in the Chrysalis Bar and Grill mod was stolen by that douche dev 'Jorge' and used in the sex scenes with Joanna and Red Lucy in New Vegas.  He used stacked trigger zones just like I did and he used my code.

Bethesda has no legal reason to give modders their due and they are known for litigating things at the drop of a hat.  Dealing with them in a professional atmosphere is inviting disaster, but the vast majority of Bethesda fans are morons or they worship the company brands; they will dive at the opportunity.  There's no way Bethesda will let clueless modder tinkerers come out on top in a business deal.  That's not how corporation operate.

I'm getting sick of that company.

And how much 'legs' does Skyrim have?  I don't think Bethesda is worried about their core fan base or the people who love The Elder Scrolls.  I think they are banking on the goldfish-level attention spans of casual and normie gamers.  By the time TES6 is rolled out 10 years will have pasted since Skyrim was released.  That is a long time in today's 'now-now-now' instant gratification culture.  Starcraft will most likely be something similar to FO4 in space.  IF that's the case it will be a pain in the ass to mod and not worth the effort.  A Bethesda game has one draw, and that is 'you can mod it'.  Hamper it like FO4 did and Bethesda has nothing to offer.

And I have the feeling no one of consequence will be talking about Starcraft next year, if CDRed releases Cyberpunk 2077 on schedule.  It will be a replay of the 2015 Witcher3 vs FO4.

EDIT: endgame beat me to the punch with Skyrim being 10 yrs old when TES6 is released. ¬¬

  12. Reported by both gamespot and PCGamer, TES 6 is not in development according to Bethesda VP of marketing Pete Hines.  The subject came up after a series of Tweets by Hines and was later verified an clarified by Hines in a statement to PCGamer.  This directly conflicts with previous statements made by Bethesda game designer Todd Howard at a D.I.C.E 2016 interview, where he confirmed development for TES6.

So what does this spell for a TES6 release date?  Don't hold your breath.  Given the standard Bethesda 3 year game release cycle, FO4 was released on Nov 10th, 2015.  'Starcraft' will be released in the Fall of 2018 and TES6 will hit the shelves in 2021.

  13. New Vegas really perturbed me.  Mr. House, his impregnable casino fortress and those fucking robots of his.  He has this giant casino wonderland and no one ever stacked dynamite in front of the doors or the base of a wall and blasted their way in.  He has those stupid robots, and no one ever thought of using pulse grenades or mines to put a stop to them.  AND the first exchange the player has with House where he takes the chip, shows it off and then forces the player to take it back.  Every time I played that scene I always thought. 'Fuck you, fuck your chip.  My job was to deliver it, so here it is.'  And then just flip it on the ground and walk off.

Something else was all of the neon lights and Hoover Dam still functioning.  Neon lights take a lot more than some guy in a shop on 'The Strip'.  Who's making the neon and then bottling it?  That is an industry unto itself.  And Hoover Dam sits for 200+ years and the Lake Mead side never silts up and turns the dam into a waterfall.  AND Hoover Dam can't provide enough electricity for Vegas now, imagine 200 yr old broken crap.  They'd be lucky if it could power an ice machine.

And don't even get me started on 'families' or 'tribes' that run The Strip.  They are Chicago-style gangsters, Rat Pack wannabes and posh-speaking Mardi Gras mask-wearing fruits.  WHERE did the cultural context for that bullshit come from?  Weren't they tribals and raiders?  Did they find Mr. Peabody and Sherman and use the Wayback Machine?

Not to mention that Caesar's Legion was built up in about 20 yrs, with their own currency, organized society and mythology.  Like I said, New Vegas was a huge joke to me since NONE OF IT made any goddamned sense.  But it's not the worst offender in the franchise.  FO4 holds that dubious honor.  I did one playthrough and did the BOS ending.  It was 90 hrs of my life wasted and Todd Howard's lies and Bethesda's bullshit will never sucker me in again.  KK, I'm done.  :D

  14. Coming straight from Oblivion to FO3 was a mind-blowing experience.  The game's atmosphere was great and main story wasn't that bad, though not innovative by any means.  The four things that really stuck in my craw about the game were;

    • No one was growing food.
    • Megaton wouldn't exist as a town since no one would live on top of a nuclear bomb by choice.
    • Rivet City would be nothing but a pile of rusted iron without constant maintenance.
    • The end scene at Project Purity where the followers who were immune to radiation refused to go into the reactor.

To me, New Vegas was a huge joke and still is.  The main quest had plot holes galore, the writing was shit, the voice acting was gawd-awful, and the list goes on.  Additionally I already knew what New Vegas could do or be because I had pumped so much game time into FO3.  Nothing that happened in New Vegas surprised me or impressed me.  It was just 'a new game to mod' and little else.  Even if New Vegas development was under pressure that doesn't excuse the story premise or the writing.  They were total shit from the beginning.

Speaking of total shit, FO4 is an even bigger joke than New Vegas was.  It's not even an RPG; it's crappy shooter with an inventory system and some stilted dialogue.  And that linear story...THE WORST, worse than New Vegas'.

But to FO4's defense, I played it after playing Witcher3 and it didn't stack up by any means.  It might not be a fair comparison but Witcher3 is the gold standard now.  If a game is billed as an RPG it had better top or at least equal the depth and richness of Witcher3.  Both Todd Howard and 'Bethesda' got a spanking behind the half-assed attempt at a game they called FO4.  And deservedly so.  I'm not a fanboy of the franchise to begin with so the next FO incarnation had better be awe-fucking-inspiring or Bethesda will get spanked again.  Maybe Bethesda should take a look at what happened to Bioware/EA and the shitstorm after Andromeda was released.  Companies pumping out substandard crap won't fly anymore.  The 'mods will fix it' axiom doesn't apply if no one cares.  Look at how FO4 has already stagnated.  No one cares, and that's Bethesda's fault.

I've said this before, but I wish CDProjectRed would buy the FO franchise.  Even with the two-year old technology that went into Witcher3, they could make a badass FO game with it that would surpass anything Bethesda can concoct.
