  1. A nice command that I wasn't aware of. Helps deeper cleaning of Debian systems. I have tried it and had almost 700 mb of files and programs that were  no longer being used.

The system is very stable now. No signs of any issues.

    The command is

    sudo apt install deborphan
    sudo apt purge $(deborphan)

It installs a tool that helps more thorough dependency management. Not required as apt get is pretty solid as it is but something extra for those wanting more clean system.

    Another cleaning command.

    journalctl --disk-usage

^ checks how much your journal files are taking up.

    sudo journalctl --vacuum-time=14d

^ this helps clear out older journal files beyond 14 days. I believe just change the 14 to whatever you want and it will clear those out.

Want to set and forget, regarding journal files ?

    sudo journalctl --vacuum-size=500M

Set the size to what you want and forget it. Now it should maintain the files as needed. AS I understand it from my reading the journals will continue to grow until cleaned. So an old system can bet more bloated than necessary. I mean you most likely won't need a journal file form last month much less last year.

I found some really nice other files but they have the rm command and that is something I won't sperad in open forums due to the fact if  you type something wrong, you can delete your entire system.  Terriffic command though. I use it to get rid of stuck or stuborn and orphand files (owners no longer present) type stuff. Really fast and powerful.

    Too much?

    The simple commands :

    sudo apt autoremove

    sudo apt clean

should be enough for most users. The above is for those that either have limited space. (say in a VM or small SD) and/or have a desire to clean out things. It can increse performance the cleaner the system is.

Found a site a few years ago with a whole host of hard to find animated films dating back to the 60's from all over the world. Now I don't know what it was and didn't save the link. But I did find this today!- https://archive.org/details/feature_films

    I'll definitely donate, lol.

Watch Felex the cat and Fantastic Planet. Really trippy and if these are full movies, hard to find.

  4. Glad we were able to help you even if it was just to give you advice on tools and/or processes on how to help you resolve your issue.

(Tools and processes are key to learning the modding process and helps greatly in the future when other issues occur. There are some and perhaps in the future you, that can open the records and review what was done and see the conflicts and fix them. Or should I say make a patch that fixes them so that they can use whatever mods they want. There are others that don't use or rarely use others work and instead makes almost everything they use ... minius some texture or mesh. Even then they often tweak it ;) Some of those people are here. :P )

Thank you very much for the very detailed advice @RitualClarity. I'll have a go at doing those steps.

I would be quite surprised if it was the number of mods. This is my unclear writing again, but when I said: 'Occurs with these mods active/installed: xNVSE, JIP, JohnnyGuitar, ShowOff (NVSE plugin), SUP & Plugin, Stewie's Tweaks*, BnB and Breeze body replacers.', I meant that when I was testing batch of mods, they were all the mods needed to start the glitch - I simply included my full normal modlist just in case any of the mods are known to leave residual files that might have mucked up my files. Still, I will follow your advice because your method is far more organised than mine (I didn't use profiles).

I try to install all of my files via MO, but there are some that seemed to me be best installed manually (like xNVSE and FCO hair addon, for example), but if you think that is probably not a great idea, I'll exclusively install everything via MO in the future.

I was surprised to see that it might be a memory/GPU issue because my game runs flawlessly otherwise, this is literally the only issue with my game at the moment. Still, I'll give that a go too.

    Thank you again.

When the engine is overworked it can freak out and all those are heavy scripted mods.

When I stated install all the mods in MO I meant all that you can. There are ways to install various manual optons in the game but these only work if they are in the "Data" folder. If you have to install in the main folder where you see "Data" folder then you can't do that wtih MO You have to install it there manually. In those cases it is likley like @kendo2 stated. Some DLL is causing the trouble. I'd suggest trying to wait for that mod to be installed until after you are 100 confident that the rest of the mods are solid. Installed and working. Of course some of them are mainstays and are needed for mutiple mods you will be installing. IN that case you don't really have an option. ONe option you don't h ave is to not nuke your install files (game not mod) and make sure the main game is 100% pure and clean before you restart your mod installations. Just in case ther is a bad file or bad config hanging around. Also you MUST have at a minimum a clean save to start with. Meaning no mods play thorugh to where you exit the house. Save then test. This will help prevent any problems that were baked into a save. At this point you can before you do all this just make a new start and try and see if it still does it. If yo umentioned you did that already I appoligize. (Sorry for the typos, I am both writing fast and my computer I am using for this sucks. )

  6. @Liminalspacer

I see you are using Mod Organizer.

Local or Universal? (single portable instance = local instance) I prefer local instances.

It is extremely unusual that a configuration issue would occur outside of MO. (Mod Organizer) unless you specifically did so.  Config files and such should all be in MO itself. Just in case I suggest nuke and clean the game folder. Nothing left. Start fresh game folder. Keep your MO safe. Move it out of the folder if it is in the game folder (where I usually keep it, where you see the "Data" folder)

I would also suggest a memtest and gpu test to be sure there isn't any unknown hardware issues. They can crop up under extreme stress. Yes your other games might work perfectly but keep in mind you are lumping hundreds of mods and scripts on top of a fragile Bethesda game engine. Not the best or most optimized option. Not to mention many mods aren't that optimum to boot.

    You still here?

If so then uncheck ALL mods. Create a couple of new clean profiles. You will understand why a couple of new profiles in a few moments.

    Done?

If you are still here ...

Name those profiles based on the basic mod sets you need. For example Sexout mods. Female body mods, male body mods, quest etc. The goal is to prepare to set up independent profiles to test these sets of mods.

Now play the game without any mods at least up to the point where you can make changes to your character. Save. Step out of the door, wait for the system to settle and save again. It will be clear shortly why.

Now for the "fun" part. I know this is a pain in the ass but it will be clear soon. Start MO and select a set of mods. Lets say Sexout and its dependent mods.  It comes with a basic body which you will use currently while testing. I know it is not great. Do the same with the body mods, then the other sets. Keep these sets to about 5 to 10 mods. If the profiles work well move on until you have pretty much all the mods in one way or the other activated in a profile. They all work. Including the mods you suspect is the issue.

Now go back and add a few mods for example Sexout profile add the bodies. Added animations. Make sure that works. Then move to the next profile and test. Repeat until 100 mods are on one profile If you have a problem you will have to slowly remove a couple of the mods you just added. See if it works.

This will 1. confirm that your "set' of mods work. Provide a testing setup. (you can even have a separate MO portable install for this )  and provide you with a quick and dirty jumping point to help figure out which "sets" are having the problem. 2. it will make sure all is installed cleanly and nothing from the game folder etc. is effecting your mods and 3. I suspect you have too many mods. You will see that you reach a pont where they just aren't working. I had a similar issue where weird things didn't work in Fallout 3. The E button randomly gave out. The distance rendering didn't work. The interior randomly didn't work. Et.c.  4. you will have confirmed that your computer is reasonably solid (mem an gpu testing. )

It's a pain in the ass. Yep. However, errors and corruptions slowly enter the game as you slowly develop the game load out.  It also couldn't hurt to get fresh copies and make sure all mods are updated. YOu can easily had selected something or configured something in the process of making your MO load out that is also causing the issue. There are so many possibilities.

  7. IT will continue to be broken. All the mod authors in the world won't fix that. They didn't "remake it" they slapped another engine on top of the original one that barely held it together.

I would hope that people learned about their extreme low level effort money grab and not buy another turd they "remake" in the future.

Remaking it would be at a minimum bringing it to the 64bit gambro engine they currently are using. Fix some of broken quest that was originally planned but not able to be implemented due to hardware / game limits. For example the Fallout New Vegas city was origanally one cell but had to be broken up. Now they can correct that and add the other missing quest that were killed. Upgrade the graphics to reflect their last game's graphics. That is a real remake.

We can't expect them to really make it incredible due to their abilities. However, we can expect that they can at least bring it up to what is currently available in their current setup. For them it is transfering the data and some graphics tweaks. Very light and doable.

Buying a "remake" again for say Fallout NV and they did that, it would be worth a reasonable amount once the modding tools are available and mod authors start to fix their screwups and port the old mods to the new game. It would be at least 64 bit and would be able to handle more data in a cell than it could under the 32 bit.

Great mod, super excited to use it!

But I am having an issue where my sims can't seem to have sex anywhere involving an object (e.g. bed, table, etc.). It comes up with the "Failed to start sex. Object (and then the object code). No animations found". I've just been testing out the rape functions, so maybe other sex works, but I would ideally like it all to work. They're able to do it on the floor or against a wall (although the only animations that have happened so far have been milking and fingering), but it just doesn't work on any bed (I've tried several).

I thought it might be the deviantcore settings about actor preferences, but I've tried both with those turned on and off, and nothing.

Does anyone know what this issue might be?

make sure you have animatons that cover those devicees.

  9. Oh, I forgot and meant to add this to the thread. I think I forgot and didn't upload it. If I did sorry.

When using terminal (named diferent in differnet Linux distros but all are CLI ... Command Line Interface) and get a crowded terminal and want to work on something else but don't want to have to close this down and open yet another terminal.

    Use the "Clear" command.

    simply type

    clear.

Same when done. Type in the terminal

    exit.

    and it will close.

Oh and open a terminal without searching for the program.

    CTL + ALT + T

Now you can navagate the terminal much more eaiser.

Chaining commands like update and upgrade etc. Use the "&&" command (minus the ")

sudo apt udpate && sudo apt upgrade && clear && exit. :P  ( didn't need the clear command lol)

so many commands coming out of my ears. lol.

  10. I haven't used this. (yet. A BIG yet) but it looks great.

    https://mivocloud.com/blog/Tasksel-what-is-it-and-why-is-it-needed

Very useful but would require a bit of Linux knowlege.  (For my LInux I had to install Tasksel first. (sudo apt install tasksel) image.png.773ba7c60c1a3040d3f93a4de06fe71c.png

    image.png.7daee57f28925fc9d6d7b8c1d8bf9b72.png

The above shows Web Server,SSH server and Laptop (not sure what that means. ) Along with many different desktop enviroments.

remember if you decide to change the enviroment for your Linux fun! When opening up a new session and selecting the new desktop make a new user for it.  Otherwise depending on which desktops you use you can have a bad expeirence. Some are able to work together and others are too close and use the same config files (found in your Home folder) so they fight like windows and linux. :P

Thanks, at least I checked correct spots and wasn't one of those new members that didn't want to take the time to even try ;)

So I will try to be really confident of the name I want to use on this site going forward since I will have to interrupt one of the moderators to change it for me.

Go to the top right. ( Under your profile photo) and select "Account Settings" That will bring you to your account info. Your name, email password etc. If you don't have access to that then let us know so we can fix it.

I noticed. I performed a site update, which involved switching to a new version of PHP. I doubt that caused it, but that was the only change I made to the website.

I doubt it was that as well. If it was others would likely have had similar issues.

I beileve my computer somehow was glitched. Command line full update of everything and a reboot seemed to fix it. It was strange. I can only think as I was trying to access the site, not being able to see any text, checking my profile, moderator tools and such I cleared it. Not being able to see much in the way of any text. (especially that in post and messages) made it hard to determine what was going on.

My  post was mostly regading my "reminder" to refersh my profile photos. :D
