He likely likes to point out exploits and stuff to make Microsoft have a headache. If you watch his videos he uses Linux BECAUSE of Windows crap they do. He had a video that stated he had certificates going back to 2002? (I believe that log ago) for various Windows skills. He uses it often for work and such. In said video he stated he can fix what Microsoft does but he many times doesn't want to put up with it and swaps over to Linux where he can get a system that he can do some real work. You are correct with many other sources that are doing this as their main job. I suspect videos from him is his second job or at least was when he started. If he didn't lie, he has more than enough skill to work in a high paying job in IT. Just his skills in Linux alone.

SOFTWARE AND SETTINGS I USE NOTE: subject to change as my taste and needs change. Mostly used for day to day work and *stuff* Helpful Hint: When you are selecting your favorite programs the top right of "Discover" has "Sources" click on that if the option is there and see what choices you have. Also, keep in mind with power comes responsiblity. The mutiple options and the way "Discover" is setup, you can end up with many different choices. Make the responsible choice and choose the sources you trust. If there is a app that comes from the developer like VLC use it over some rando app provided in the system. Not to say it is bad, it might actually add a useful feature or even fix a problem. It is however, something to be careful off. While on responsiblity, don't add repositories and such without careful consideration. You have a good amount of options provided to you in this setup using main sources like Unbuntu's Snap and Fedora's Flatpack systems along with Kubuntu sources already provided to you in "Discover" SOFTWARE: Firefox. SimpleScreenRecorder Keeypass LibreOffice (Suite) VLC LibreWolf (alernate to Firefox) qbittorrent Gimp Blender SETTINGS: Dark settings Oxygen some other pretty things.

Now for actual softare. LOL If you have a check you will find you don't even have a browser. That is because you have a minimum set of software. Open Discover and install the browser you desire along with any other software you think you need. You have a nice back up to return to if you find there is any troubles. You also have a nice set of tools to clean up the system if you do a lot of install and uninstalls. Flatpack and Snaps should keep themselves clean as far as I have the understanding of. If you stick to those primarily you should be in good shape.

Protection: I hope you feel that so far it hasn't been too hard and it has been pretty quick to set up Kubuntu. Correct? However, it would really suck now if you found yourself in a problem that you can't figure out and the quick way is to reinstall the OS. Bummer. Remember when I instructed you to use Swap BTRFS? Now I will cover the reason for this. Open Discover Type "Timeshift" in the search. Install Timeshift. Yes, you will need your password The system wants to be 100% sure you want to do what you are doing Once installed. Launch the app. It should auto select "BTRFS" if not select it now. Click next. the default is to save on the same drive as the OS is on. My intention on having you set this up is to be able to quickly restore to a previous time if you experience any trouble. A bad app, don't like a setting and can't figure it out. Restore. This will create a back up that will ONLY SAVE THE CHANGES MADE. not an entire backup. In general it is super fast to restore as well. the main drive should be selected. If not select it. (if you are using a nvme, it would be named nvme01 or the like) Click next. Select the snapshots you want to make. Keep the check mark on the cron emails for scheduled task. Click next Here you can select "include @home subvolume in backups" I suggest you don't and use some other backup option. More data changes means more space for your backups. The idea with my suggested setup is to keep you as safe as possible regarding the OS up and running. (you can save the snapshots to an external drive if you want. That is beyond the scope of this setup.) Click Next. Read When done, click finish Click on Create to get your first backup started. It might take a bit to do. Get a coffie or eat something. Don't mess with the computer. (Just kidding. wait a bit and it should be done. lol) Click on the big x on the top right and close this program.

Configuring Program Options: I like to have options. I am sure you do as well. For this we will click on the blue bag in the bottom left side. It will open "Discover" which is a GUI based software app that helps you manage your programs. Select "Settings" in the bottom left Towards the bottom of the right side you will see "Missing Backends" "Discover-Flatpak backend. Select install. Of course, you will be again prompted for a password. Open Konsole, if you don't already have it open from the previous session. (I didn't mention to close it ) sudo apt install kde-config-flatpak This will intergrate Flatpak support into the Plasma Systems Settings. type exit in the Konsole, this will close it. Before you leave Discover, click on the "Add Flathub" Close "Discover" and reopen it and go back to the settings. Shortly you should see "Central respository of Flatpak applications etc" At this time you can make Flatpak the default or leave Snap the default. You can change this at any time. You will now need to reboot/ restart. After restarting you can open "Discover" again and check programs. You should now see programs that on the top left side will say "Flatpak", "Snap" or Unbuntu. More options baby. Now if you have a bad Snap program, you can uninstall and install a flatpak option. Avoid any non snap, or flatpak options when possible.
-
First Start! Updating your new system. 1 Click on the bottom left side on the "gear". A pannel like Windows will open. There you will find "Konsole". click on that. 2 We will update. Input the text below and wait until completed. You will be prompted for your main password (the one you input first in the installation process) sudo apt update * it will upgrade the list of programs that need updates. sudo apt upgrade *it will upgrade the programs. Note won't update Flatpaks and Snaps. they update seperately. You will be asked if you want to do this. Press "Y". Cleaning your system: When you have had some time using and installing stuff. You can help clean the system. sudo apt-get autoremove This removes packages that are no longer needed. sudo apt-get clean This cleans the APT (package manager). The stored packages that have been downloaded by the package manager and no longer needed. sudo apt-get autoremove --purge This is more powerful. It removes the orphaned packages that are no longer needed. With a good clean sytem now. Why not try those clean up tools as well? If everything has been done right to this point you shouldn't have much to remove or clean. Don't worry if it reports some file not upgraded etc. All is good for you at this time.

To start. 1 Download Kubuntu. 2 Get a free USB drive that the data can be erased. 3 Use balenaEtcher to make a bootable usb drive. Rufus can be used (Windows) If asked for DD vs ISO. Always choose DD. Reboot the computer and gain access to the boot menu so that you can boot from the Kubuntu USB drive. You might have to look up your particular device requirements to do this. For my Dell it is F12. Spam that button baby! Until it tells you it is booting to the boot menu. Click on the Try or Install Kubuntu option. Once booted into the main menu where it will ask if you want to try or install you can do either. If you haven't installe Linux on this device, use the "try" option to be sure all is good before you install. You shoudl do is find your network and set it up first. It will transfer over to the installation so you won't have to do it a second time. Installation: Language, Location, Keyboard (photos are included) Customize. Minimum Installation. I will cover updating later. (Hint, it will be the command line. You need to use a command line in Linux. Best to start now.) Partitions. Erase disk, Select "Swap to file" and "btrfs" (towards the bottom) Encrypt System, and input your password. Users: (basic information including the name you want your computer to be) NOTE: If you are the only person using this computer you can set it up to log in to your account without using a passowrd. Click on the "Log in automatically without asking for the password. Don't worry, you can change this later in the "Account" settings. Summary: (where you can review your changes. Confirm that all is good before you install) Install: (... where... it installs lol) Finish: (... where you select reboot) When rebooting it will ask you to remove the USB drive and press enter. This is so that if your computer has been set up to boot from USB it won't start the installation process again.

I will be covering some basics regarding LInux. Specifically Kubuntu installation and some configurations I like to do. The thread is locked as I develop this through mutiple post / sections. Once I am satisfied I will unlock it for comments. About me: I am a Linux noob that has used Linux for well over a year and had it as a main computer for almost all I do for the past 6 months. I have experiememted with various distros such as Mint and Pure Debian, Silverblue and its "spins" as well as Manjaro (which is awesome but the documentation is inconsistant compared to Debian based distros such as Mint, Ubuntu and Kubuntu etc.)

absolutely. However their dissolving won't be interferring with the common person. They can melt, disolve or explode whatever suits their fancy in their little world. The same goes for extreme right wing crazies. Both should go to their own corners and do their own thing. Let the rest of the world live in peace. they won't learn for example Youtube and their bullshit they are doing. People are moving to another platform. Same with Tic Tok and Farcebook. Start wit the shit and lose.

Hey, I think it is cool that there is someplace where those people can go to and talk their talk away from others.

Surely this is an April's Fools joke. Right? Surely Microsoft can't be that stupid. I mean every attempt that they do to force this gets a massive negative response. No company would do that, right? Making people dig into their registry and other task to get their computer set up the way they need. This isn't aiding in security. In fact someone can screw something up and or turn off something that is needed for security. Every step they are taking is stupid. I for one is mostly on Linux. I have a computer that i am trying out various distros and programs and such gaining experince and understnading of what I want and how to get it. Linux isn't a once stop shoppng so there is some compromises you need but it is pretty easy for someone that needs basic office and internet stuff to get a quick easy setup ... Linux Mint. Or perhaps Unbuntu etc. to get really far and intergrate windoze espcially gaming and particuarly online gaming is difficult to impossible. Reason I currently have a Windows .. yes set up with an online account. first time in history (but all they can really get is my gaming stuff. ) for games. Don't worry, gaming is advancing very fast in Linux. Very fast. There are even distros that setup everyting for you however you do need to still know some stuff to tweak it when problems arrise. (dam. my H key is dying on my keyboard. lol Serves me for keeping a keyboard for years. lol)

my laggy mess was likely a bad download as I had a near complete failure with missing a monitor! Tried a live CD and it worked well. So instead of wasting hours trying to figure it out, installed a fresh copy. Firefox is still a bit laggy but not bad. Much better and like on m y other potato. lol 20 minutes later a compete system fully updated and some key software installed. I can do this 10 times more and still be less time that a Windows install and update lol. Expecially if you add the software installation in the equations!

Not so third rate. I belive that is propaganda of the West. Keep in mind, even with choking sanctions it still managed to grow for a time. Still is managing to get materials and equipment to the front lines. Still able to mount a war and finally still holding land in a country that had basically an open checkbook for purchasing supplies to throw at it. Sure China is likely helping to a degree and as it Korea but I doubt either are contributing the tones of cash that is being contributed by USA/Europe / nato. Ukraine is getting first rate intellegence from the USA. Yet with all this. Propaganda aside, Ukraine still isn't successful after 3 years. I do agree the media in Europe are pushing a farce. However, the reason might be much more evil. With "concern" and controled panic they can further push their agenda and funnel more money to Ukraine maybe even personal. All the while the citizens will back it. the US money train that has left the station has to be made up. The military complex in Europe wants to get in the action and make record $$$ now as well. So they (Europe) will use Trump as an reason to spend double or even tripple of what they did previously on top of the support being sent to build up their forces.

I have bad news. A recent update of Firefox became a very laggy mess. It is a snap of course. So keep that in mind when you use sandboxed applications those can start to have a problem hopefully fixed with a new update. Also keep in mind you can use any destop for practically any Linux distro just have to install it. Most major distros have the major desktops in their repo. I might need to go to a Gnome desktop. I found a video capture program that works well on it that isn't available on another desktop. This is for one of my laptops that doesn't have an external monitor. The other options work... just a bit wonky and not as clean. I'd have to install a gnome desktop to access just that small program. Lots of resources used just for that program to use another desktop. It is a good opportunity to play with Manjaro. A Arch Linux spin off. Arch doesn't need to ever be updated to a new version. Has the bleeding edge software. Very useful for possible future gaming on Linux. Arch has some of the most current software for this. It is used by Linux based hand helds as well. (a version of it at least) So the software is readily avaiable way earlier than on Debian. It would potentially be more unstable and occasionally I might need to get to the command line and do some work to resolve some issues. This of course would be on my secondary old laptop or a VM.

Worse than I thought.

You did. You just didn't know it LOL

What you aren't saying is they are committing crimes against innnocent democrats. The people that they belong to (generally). That is just wild. It is one thing to attack a dealer but quite another to attack customers especially when you don't know their history. I know a democrat couple that own 2 teslas and they HATE Elon! Oh do they HATE. I can't imagine how someone resolves their HATE for Elon and still drive his cars. This couple has plenty of money to easily buy some other electric car. Sure it sucks to loose some money on the deal but ... when you HATE, you HATE. If I had that much HATE, I wouldn't care if I walked or took the bus. I"d get rid of what I HATE.

There used to be a way to use windows .dll in Linux. It is advanced but it was what was being done before Wine and other tools came along. However, you are 100% correct a VM is great use for Windoze. Use it how you want. Make a snapshot to make sure that Windoze tomfoolery won't screw you up. If it does, just restore a snapshot. Usually it is pretty quick. As I understand you can also once you set up windoze the way you want create a snapshot and then not need any virus or other software. Getting set up you can use Windoze defender. Less software needed. Less bullshit needed. Finally for those that need graphics or some other drivers and such you can pass through components to the Linux device (meaning for graphics you would have to have 2 graphics options perferably AMD for the grpahics card. less trouble) And it would respond very close to native windoze. There is even a program if it completes called looking glass that takes the output from the Windoze vm and places it directly into linux with very little lag. You get more lag from network for live gaming session than you get from this. Lots of good stuff.

I'm not sure m yself where the informaiton for the modules are but if they are anywhere they would most likley be in the Discord server that he has. As for the question about doucments and such in the folder. I havne't got a definitive answer however, I often times have some in my folders as I am too lazy to clean up the folders and likely it won't slow it down as some members have stated they have 100 = gig mod folders with little issue. finally for the package/tsscript question. Yes, I'd say you should remove both. Also remember to never h ave them more than one folder deep. Meaning sims4/mods/your mod folder/package and script. Most of the time I just extract the authors folder and drag and drop into the sims mod folder as they set it up.

I don't hold hope as well. Unless some other studio takes it over. Even then if it is a studio in the US that has been around for any amount of time, it will likely be same shit different day. Imagine if the studio that did BSG3 took it over or for that matter any studio in Asia. I would put Europe in it (CD Project Red) but... the screw up they did to releasse Cyberpunk makes me think twice.

Your game doesn't work. It works for those that followed the installation instuctions and basic Sims 4 modding processees. Your game isn't some special Unicorn. It doesn't work, = you fucked up somewhere. Go back and double check what you did. yep... Can be a major issue which you seem to ignore. Along with the entire mod description it seems. I have helped you. Posting questions that have the dam answer in mod description is a clear sign that you aren't reading and using basic common sense and sincere attempt to correct and find the answers. Answers that are already avaialble. This tells those that have more advanced understanding of what is going on, that you are a waste of time to support. I have provided support and even outright testing of mods for various games for more than 13 years. I've learned that people that can't be assed to READ can't be helped. The support person would go around and around and around for days only to find out some basic thing that the person needing support states WAS INSTALLED CORRECTLY, was fucked up. Instead come to the mod authors thread and state the mod is broke. You aren't going to get shit with that response/action. At least not here. Here we expect a minimum amount of effort which is reading and undrstanding the mod description. Along with a basic understanding on how to mod Sims 4. FYI. I will continue to tell you and anyone else that can't be bothered to read the mod description to read it. I will continue to tell those that don't seem to know the most basic process of modding and maintaining their Sims game to watch some Youtube videos on how to do this. You want to post questions? Get useful answers? Post useful, detailed questions that has information that hasn't been given in the mod description. Detailed information regarding what is happening. Can it be repeated.

Most every problem being mentioned here clearly shows that the poster doesn't read instructions and/or follow basic rules for Sims4 mod installation. That's the reason your game doesn't work. I love it (scarcasm) especally when they claim the mod is broken. Wow, the adaucity that some rando from the web has the knowlege to determine that a mod doesn't work while posting stupid question that have the answer right in the mod's authors original post. (looking at the simscommunitylab mod question) Have fun trying to figure it out without actually reading the authors OP.
