A 980 is a bit outta my league at the moment.  Are you saying that a

EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW+ GAMING ACX 2.0+

is barely better then my

EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti FTW+ 3GB w/Backplate

Which is minimum 4 years old now.

A powerful top line TI is generally pretty dam good for a number of years. The 970 is great. I love mine and can play almost anything I want. Just stating that it might not get you as far as you expect. Check the numbers out I have posted form the comparisons and decide for yourself. Soon as I have the tutorial installed (and if I am correct that Anatriax has the same card) I can give more accurate feedback. When the new cards come out (soon I believe) the prices will drop on the 980s. They will be more affordable. Special sales will be given provided there are any stock left when the new cards come out. They have already started giving special sales and pricing and stocking up at the stores of all the product from the manufacture. It might just become more affordable.

Well if it isnt my graphics card, what else reasonably could be causing the stuttering I am getting.  I have a hard time because the mouse doesnt move smoothly anymore and has a lag associated with it.  I just find it odd that nothing is alleviating this even when I turn the graphics down and uncheck Skyrim HD and STEP.

I dont think its my processor because its an I7 3770k and I have a decent amount of ram 16gb

There is likely something running in the background. Double check the graphics settings she has early in the tutorial. I can't help much more as I haven't got mine up and running yet. Yet I did have the same problem when I tested it before partially installed ;). it was badly lagging in general.

Are you on a mechanical drive or an SSD?

Did you follow the advise and install the game outside of the Programs folder (perhaps even Steam itself outside of that folder)?

Ya Im on an SSD

My game is saved outside Program files.  I just tested some more and I lag a lot more in the city then in the dungeon, makes sense, and sometimes when i login it is ok and others its really bad.

The log on issue is really strange. I believe we need to wait until Anatriax has a chance to chime in. However I believe you are almost there and in that case encouraged me even more that my work on this installation will turn out good. (also means if you need to a 970 might just be the beast you need to upgrade to :) and will go you just fine for this and other games. ) I was getting some lag out in the dungeons and more in the city  (too many people and texturtes etc) when using my old 660 2gb vram. Afterwards when changing over to the 970 ... butter. :)

With all this talk about hardware. She might want to move this to its own thread. :)

But Im running full settings right now on high.  Ill reply on here when I have determined exactly what is going on when I have the chance.

I do not like Maximus Perkus.  I seem to have lost over half my skill points on my characters and I do not seem to have any extra perk points to spend.  And GOD is there a lot of frackking perks now.  How am I ever able to get near the top of any of those.

Last thing is I spend more time eating, buying food, drinking and filling up then I do playing haha.

Plus how do I see my fps in skyrim?

Says in one of the posts that Seasons of Skyrim is used.  I do not see it in the guide.

@Anatriax

I have completed Phase 5 (finally, dam those are large mods :P). I have moved the files like you mentioned .. or so I believe I have. Attaching the mod list for review. Let me know if something is off. If it is all good perhaps it can be a reference for people getting this far. :)  I tried to keep the order of installation in exact order you gave it then moved the needed mods as directed, avoiding moving any of the other mods.

Perkus Maximus is not to be used on existing characters. It (as well as this entire guide) is designed to be used with an entirely new character.

With iNeed, you can go into the MCM settings, and set up eating so it's automated. That way, all you have to do is make sure you have enough food and water.

With the FPS, you can turn on the Steam FPS counter. That works just fine.

Seasons of Skyrim is not mentioned, yet, because it will be entirely optional. That is because it is a fairly heavy ENB preset, that is more taxing on systems than some other popular presets.

As far as your stuttering:
1) I need to see your load order (put it in a spoiler, please)
2) I need to see your skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini settings
3) I need to see enblocal.ini
4) What Operating System are you running? (Yes this can affect performance)
5) Anything else running in the background? Did you run SmartClose before attempting to run the game?

Wow umm, this is totally not the order I have mine.  All my main files are first not last.  I also did not see an exact order we were supposed to place them in.  Very interesting though.

edit 1:  i see that this must be upside down in order....

So ya im getting a steady 12-13 fps in the game using ONLY this guide.  When I add my 10-12 mods it doesn't change.

Ya put the settings on low in spini, unchecked step and hd skyrim and it only went to 14-16 fps, I dont think my graphics card can handle the enb and the enb mod preset.  Even though it is the best 660 card out there.  I hope My new 970 ftw even gets close to being good enough now.

You should be mostly fine. Like I said, upload those .ini files so I can take a look at them. There may be a few things I can suggest changing that will drastically improve performance.

highlight the text etc you want to be in a spoiler.

Then click on the "eye" in the tool bar

You will see a box around the new content that has been placed in a spoiler.

Sooooooooooooooo, I was messing with my NVidia settings and I found a part that emphasized performance over quality.  And now I have everything set to the full settings this mod says to use and was getting 30 fps in the city.  I can definitely see a reduction in HD quality terrain but its good for now until I get my 970.

Sometimes it just takes messing around with a few things to get the performance you want :)

just curious but will you be adding  more mods later possibly? Was hoping to see more such as better  vampires or some follower type mods or enhanced blood.  I was  thinking about adding some of those but im not sure which one to get and I dont want to break your mod list that you provided :/

As always, my guides are WIP. They're constantly changing, and things are constantly being added. If you have a list of mods that you'd like me to test for compatibility, provide links to them over in the development thread. We will test them, and see how they interact with the game.

will do im acualy just waiting for  DynDOLOD  to finish right now but I do appreciate your guide  though.  looking forward to testing  your pack  once everything finishes. I do have a question though  on this step of your guide

"Character Creation Overhaul:
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/21587/?
Brings back the Oblivion style character creation, with classes and birthsigns. "

did you install the updated version under "updates" for it  or did you just use version 1.3.2 ?

I also noticed the link you gave for   XP32's Maximum Skeleton Extended:
didnt bring you to  the download page. heres the link you provided  http://www.loverslab.com/files/go/3c8af5cca1f9847949041bbd310605f3/xp32-maximum-skeleton-extended

I went ahead and searched for the version you mentioned on LL and found it but ill also do what you suggested on developer forums about suggesting mods.
