  1. On the last update I was talking about converting Makehuman’s feet to Sims 4 and use it for my shoes, I also pondered about using other creators meshes. The problem with that approach is that the resulting shape is different from the one I’ve been using almost since the beginning, that means making two version of the same heels: one for Sims 3 and the other for 4. Since I got confident using Blender 2.8 I decided to remake the original “impossible feet” that in its last version (1.8) consisted in a subdivided mesh from EA’s with 3D toes extracted from Bloom’s Sexy Feet attached, more or less. As I talked before, the impossible feet has dozens upon dozens of errors: double vertices, badly texture distortion, blockiness and more important: a big seam between feet and toes that makes open shoes design tricky. By using a dozen or so of vertices as base I duplicated the original mesh and fixed blockiness in arch and ankle while keeping everything as tidy as possible, this last step was important because from it the UV generated would be easier to manipulate and have less stretching. Then I reduced the polycount from makehuman’s toes and integrated it for real this time at the end of the modified mesh. Compared to version 1.8 this one is a little bit larger and wider on both toes and ankle area, something I’d experimented before but because the original lacks vertices where I needed I wasn’t able to apply the modifications. Why I didn’t re-used Bloom’s toes/feet? Because that mesh has a layout that works perfectly for normal feet, but gets harder to manipulate when modifying the shape, mine already has the shape it only needed (a lot of) refinement. *Wait a minute. That looks for the Sims 3, what happened to S4’s version?* Sims 4 version will be created from this one, which will keep the shape intact. Adding a second or third row of vertices without messing with the UV is doable on Blender, and the UV layout itself will be a lot easier to adapt. What I’m showing you represents a progress around 75%, I would be lying if I told you this has been a walk in the park, far from it..., but after several tests I’m very confident on the final result. So if you’ve already waited until this point I’ll ask you to wait a bit more. Starting to learn Blender 2.8 (even in its beta state) was a good decision, upcoming CC will show it. Thanks for reading!
  2. Most of the problems I had making my own “impossible feet” for Sims 4 came from my workflow: modeling in metasequoia, exporting to blender 2.64 for UV mapping and then to 2.79 for normals fixing; the final step was exporting to milkshape to generate a .ms3d for S4CASTools.

Yes it was a mess and generated a lot of problems and defects along the way, worked fine at the beginning but not anymore.

An alternative was to stop using several programs in favor of Blender 2.8 beta which has a completely revamped interface that makes it a lot easier to use. So I started familiarizing with the modeling tools, reading and watching tutorials and doing some exercises. Long story short: Blender 2.8 rules and it has become my main tool.

I still have some stuff to take care of before returning so hang on a bit more.

  3. Yep,I’m still not happy with the results but I also ran out of time, I won’t be able to do anything related to modding for a couple of months so if you don’t want to wait remember than anyone is free to modify my CC to their liking.

    See you in spring.

  11. I will delay the heels for Sims 4 one week, I need to refine the UV for the feet even more so stockings and alike look OK(ish).

  12. Someone tell the devil there’s a chance of snowing this week... After further review almost every pair of feet available for Sims 4 is too high-poly. I learned from my experience from Sims 3 that manipulating high detail meshes tends to stretch the UV map, making patterns and textures deformed at best. So I’m resurrecting one of my (many) abandoned projects, this was supposed to be the original “Impossible Feet” for Sims 3 before I left it, partially because my understanding of Blender was non-existent (and probably still is). So I extracted the feet from “Make Human” and started reducing polygons where isn’t needed (everywhere except for the toes) and left enough in areas that normally lack detail (like the arch). Also because Sims 4 UV map is cleaner than Sims 3 I believe I won’t have too many problems adapting to it. So in resume, I’ve more control of shape and UV compared to modifying someone else mesh, although if this blows on my face like many other attempts before I’m probably going to choose Hiroki’s feet. This is the last step before releasing my first pair of Impossible Heels for Sims 4. See you (hopefully) next saturday.
  13. Another pair of “3d boots” incoming for Sims 3, this one gave me equal headaches as the last one but I think it will be compatible with both the default body and MedBod.

  14. Converting any pair of ‘Impossible Heels’ to Sims 4 is... possible (pun intended) because I can mix my workflow (Metasequoia for creating the shoes, Blender to fix UV/normals and Milkshape for the final touch) with Cmar’s S4CASTools. As a matter of fact you could only use Milkshape to: separate shoes and feet from a .geom or .wso scale the shoes to adapt them to S4’s new feet rearrange the UV map use S4CasTools for bone assignment As usual I’m oversimplifying the whole process but If you’re familiar with the aforementioned tools, plus use Redheadsims shoes slider and don’t want to wait for me you could already make the conversion yourself, the only missing piece is the feet. I already adapted Sims 4 feet to the “Impossible Feet” shape, but I’m not 100% convinced and of course it won’t look right when using sandals or any other type or open shoes, the options are making a more detailed feet or modify someone elses, so that’s what I’m going to concentrate next.
  15. After testing both S4Studio and S4CASTools I decided to stick with the latter, S4Studio isn’t bad and as a matter of fact my first two releases for Sims 4 were made on it (and will continue to use it for texture accessories), unfortunately for me it relies heavily on Blender for anything related to meshing. On the other hand S4CASTools uses Milkshape a program I’m familiar with to the point making my first “Revealing Edits” for Sims 4 was quicker that I initially thought.

  16. I was thinking the same but I need to practice more with the shape and settle on the height / proportions.
  17. Did I forget to make stuff for Sims 3? of course not:

    ep6MagicianUnlock_CorsetEDIT_teaser.jpg.db6b1d0ac1ea86a961762950f48f8d0c.jpg

  18. Yeah I know, not my best pair of shoes. The objective was to test Redheadsims slider, it remembers me to a similar one made by Cmar for Sims 3 many moons back. I exported the mesh from PumpsHighPointed using S4CASTools and hastily modified it on Milkshape, I just wanted to make something ‘high’ so I didn’t care for shape, height units, texture distortion, LODs, etc. Then imported back the modified mesh, it’s a very simple process mainly because I’m just changed the shape of the original mesh, when trying to import my self-made meshes I’ve found all kinds of problems but I have plenty of time to figure it out. I’m going to continue making tests, I don’t expect to find anything catastrophic beyond clipping while seated, on furniture and misalignment while interacting with other sims (the same happens on Sims 3). I also need to see how the heels interact with custom animation/poses, other mods, etc.
  19. My objective is at least to create a “proof of concept” on the next weeks, IF everything goes right then you can expect the first pair of “Impossible Heels” for Sims 4 at the end of the month.

  20. Hopefully I’ll remember to do it just once a year
  21. Friendly reminder: I don’t and never will make CC for money, ever.

In other news, next upload (for both Sims 3 and Sims 4) on January 26th.

    Happy 2019!

(and please be a better year...)
