One question gaming YouTubers should be asking right now is whether Microsoft is allowing Bethesda to maintain creative control over their IPs. Because if they do, there is no way Todd Howard wouldn't have knowledge that an Oblivion remake is in the works. Either Todd is lying or no game is being made.

I remember Obsidian wanted to add a mini story to Fallout: New Vegas about San Francisco being destroyed, but Bethesda had them remove it.

I don't see a third party studio making a remake of Oblivion without some oversight from Bethesda.

Well it wouldn't be like Todd didn't lie before. ;)  He has lied many times previously. Honestly, I don't think this is an actual thing. Maybe, they might be letting the hype train go to see how much people want a remake. To see if it is worth it to persue. I'd assume it woudln't be super difficult for them to remake the game if they follow the same as the original. The music is there. The dialoge is there. They would need to rework the graphics and meshes and make it fit in the new engine (If assuming they are going to use Unreal 5 or something) If it is the same engine just updated, they can easily fix it. They have experience with Skyrim/Fallout 4 if my memory serves me correctly. They were working on Skyrim SE learning when developing Fallout 4. you can still find assets from older games moved over to the new ones (TES and FAllout )  Some assets even from the other game IP lol. Or so I was infromed.

I see Microsoft letting Bethesda control their IP ... at least hs up to to a point. Microsoft is like any other American company. They want $$$ and they want it as cheaply as possible. They also don't want their IP or companys to have negative presse that will blow back to them.  So log as Todd can do this, I don't see them taking the IP away from Bethesda. However, look at Starfail and all that happened with that. How far off the mark they were. Looking back how far off the mark they were for FAllout 76 and Fallout 4. Sure they got better but the press each time was negative and got worse each release. This isn't a one off event. If they had Skyrim level fame up to the point where they failed Starfail, one could chalk it up to a fluke.

I honestly see Bethesda shutting down.  Perhaps when Todd leaves. Who knows what agreements were made with the takever. I am sure Todd got his golden ticket to exit.

I've looked at the images that are supposedly in-game shots and they look like renders to me.

Bethesda devs on strike equals 'We refuse to do the jobs we suck at.'  Easily replaced.

Yes, replace them with the original staff that created these masterpieces and instruct them to do the same.

My thoughts keep going back and forth between "this game may be real" to "this game was canceled years ago and these leaks are a massive troll job".

Assuming this game is real, the fact that Microsoft is willing to release it without any fanfare means to me that the game is bad, the company has little faith in the project and is unwilling to put any marketing dollars behind it.

I was originally in agreement, however,  a thought come across my alien mind. LOL. They could be keeping it around to tweak and work on in down time without any real date to release. When they decide they need some more $$$ They release it maybe with a week or 2 for their fan boys and girls on Youtube to give a review to get the hype that way. Let word of mouth do its work. I believe Hogwarts wouldn't have been as popular if it wasn't for the people loosing it due to the author of the books being "antitrans" (even though their is clearly a trans woman in the game. Not just a random person but a key NPC that you have to interact with at least once and has other side missions for you to complete.) Once people seen how good it was they bought it. It's a simple childs game. Easy and clean and can be fun before it becomes tedious. It even has mods! lol. (currated by WD of course so no strange stuff. Looking at you LL ;) )

If done even halfway decently (say fallout NV or even Fallout 3 even Skyrim quality) it will take off itself without any hype. If a mod system is released at the same time as the release of the game, even more so. So long as it isn't Starfail.

Also isn't it being done by another studio?

I didn't post the video about it, but Bethesda authorized a strike a few weeks ago. Now that this game seems to be real, you have to wonder how much leverage they will lose in negotiations with Microsoft. If this game is a critical success (I don't think it will be), then Microsoft would likely be emboldened to allow more studios to make Elder Scrolls and Fallout games while Bethesda employees are on the picket lines collecting unemployment.

I didn't know they went on strike

    https://www.gamespot.com/articles/bethesda-and-zenimax-union-votes-to-authorize-a-strike/1100-6530524/

Not sure if that is a good idea. They have created very badly received games in the very recent past. It is likely that Microsoft bought it for the IP not for the other *stuff*.  Microsoft can shut everything down and use their own resources that they have instead of them. At least as far as I understand it. They don't need them anymore. They own the IP(s). Sure there might be some public opinion blow back but if they do release Oblivion, and it is successful (I am assuming it isn't from Bethesda).

If Microsoft hasn't given them a contract, it is very likely that they are seriously considering just cutting them off and shutting down the entire thing.

Also nobody is stating Microsoft's side of the story. It is likely they have seriously got after them (looking at you Todd) for the failures after failures they had. The working on a game for years to not even have it even partially ready and then dumping it or at least large portions of it to rework it again. Not that Microsoft hasn't been guilty of that crap.

If (and I believe it is very likely) they are shut down. The games will be made, but likely not as modable as we had or would like.

Another former Windows user. I guarantee that when the AI bubble bursts, there will be a lot of regret at the tech companies pushing this AI crap.

Has anyone told him of VM with pass through?  He can still use win10 if it is just to game. Of course there is still a risk of exploits etc but dividing your computing helps lower your overall online risk. He can also do as I did and use 11 and not give a dam about the bloat. If it is a gaming computer it is likley powerful enough to VM and a linix.

  5. There will be alot of regret from users that used this as well. In order for AI to even be competent, it needs massive amounts of data. YOUR data if you want it personalized.  It has to be paid for, so you will give permissions for all those searches to be paid for by your input, tracking what you have done and what you have asked.

The companies have tried to get all our information and just found another way to do data mining of our information. I don't think that most people understand how valuable this information is. Google is a trillion-dollar company. What have you paid google? What has people you know paid google? Next to nothing, if anything. It is a data mining company. From your emails to your searches and phone uses (if you use a google phone or even google apps on your apple phone)

Google's information on googles data retention. Notice most times it says ... "most data".  ;)

(sorry for the formatting. I don't know why it did that and it didn't want to be fix. )

    Spoiler

Google's data retention policies vary depending on the type of data and Google services used. Generally, Google keeps some data for the duration of your Google Account, while other data may be deleted after a set period or when you choose to delete it. For example, your search history is retained by default for 18 months, but you can change this to 3 months, 36 months, or choose to never delete it. Incognito browsing, on the other hand, doesn't store data in your Google account history.

    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    • Search History:
Google retains search history for 18 months by default, but users can adjust this to 3 months, 18 months, or 36 months, or choose to never delete it.
      Web & App Activity:
    • This setting allows Google to collect your browsing and app activity, and you can control the retention period for this data, according to Google.
    •
    • Google Account:
Some data is retained for the life of your Google Account if it's useful for understanding user interaction with features and improving services.
    •
    • Location Data:
Google keeps location data according to your settings, which can be 3, 18, or 36 months, or until you delete it.
    •
    • Incognito Mode:
Any browsing done in Incognito mode will not be stored in your Google account history.
    •
    • Deleted Google Account:
Most personal data is typically removed from Google's active servers within 30-90 days after an account is deleted.
    •

How to check and manage your Google activity:
    1. Go to myactivity.google.com and log in with your Google account.
    •
    • You can filter your activity by date and product to see specific browsing history, searches, or other activities.
    •
    • You can also adjust your auto-delete settings for search history and other activity in your Google Account settings.

I'm keeping it for my VM for now. It doesn't support DirectX 12 so newer games are off the table. Also, I believe the paltry 4GB of ram is why Skyrim crashed on me so often.

It is pretty low on VRAM. That is very likely why you crashed if you had lots of textures. It isn't horrible. But not the best. Even a 1060 would have served you better.

Good. I find this game interesting. Good thing I just bought a better GPU, my current one sucks lol.

If you don't mind me asking what you had previously?

Personally not my cup of tea. Like Sims. But I am curious to see where this goes as far as modability. I'm sure if it has mod capability, the game will explode.

At first viewing it was very interesting. I saw an LG tv and some cars and such. It looked more hyper realistic than Sims 4. Looking hyper realistic is nice but story and support and immersion is more important.  Also what you stated @endgameaddiction is very true.

It looks like they are trying to make it very moddable. The ability to add a texture from file is strange but original. There is evidence that they want to make modding part of the game. However, this could also be simply because they didn't lock down the game (yet) which they might do once they officially release it.  Besides making it modable, I would like to add a mod manager as well as very well documented tools. Tools that are either added to free software like gimp and Blender or released tools would really make this super popular.

I like their approach that they have given the option to even change the landscape beyond your lot. YOu can make changes to the city if you desire. If they added a way to create a entire city that you could download and place in game ... that would be terrific as well IMO. I can imagine people creating neighborhoods or even full cities (if the size would allow. If not sections)

I believe it is at least worth keeping an eye on. Not worth paying 40 dollars currently for.

  9. Indie games have been better so far. Maybe not as big or finished as some of the tripple a trash games :P  I will give you that.

I will still wait until I can see some realy solid game play and a proper review.

I want to, i really want to give money to companies for games. They just have to give decent games. I bought Harry Potter, I can't even tell you much about the IP. I bought it because of the flack the left gave as well as the major reviews and praises it got. Same for Baulders Gate 3. Not into D&D games (well video games that is) but it got so much positive ... importantly REAL praise I bought it. Liked both and got my money's worth out of it. These weren't cheap games. Oh I also got Robocop game as well and it was good for a few run thoughs (got that on a sale though a few years after its release as it wouldn't give me as much play as the others. )

Yes please, I need new hardware!

Recycle all those perfectly good old hardware. Expecally those powerful gaming systems :D

Also is it just me or does this narrator remind you of Snape from Harry Potter?

Windows is a great company (for me) as it constantly pushes for the newest and greatest (leaving the old stuff behind )  YES PLEASE!

Microsoft will just patch it. I don't understand why these YouTubers are playing this game of wack-o-mole. Either switch OS or accept online-only accounts.

He likely likes to point out exploits and stuff to make Microsoft have a headache.

If you watch his videos he uses Linux BECAUSE of Windows crap they do. He had a video that stated he had certificates going back to 2002? (I believe that log ago) for various Windows skills. He uses it often for work and such. In said video he stated he can fix what Microsoft does but he many times doesn't want to put up with it and swaps over to Linux where he can get a system that he can do some real work.

You are correct with many other sources that are doing this as their main job. I suspect videos from him is his second job or at least was when he started. If he didn't lie, he has more than enough skill to work in a high paying job in IT. Just his skills in Linux alone.

Same. But that social media will dissolve as they eat their own and outcast anyone who questions, or has a disagreement. Conform or else...

absolutely. However their dissolving won't be interferring with the common person. They can melt, disolve or explode whatever suits their fancy in their little world.  The same goes for extreme right wing crazies. Both should go to their own corners and do their own thing. Let the rest of the world live in peace. :D

they won't learn for example Youtube and their bullshit they are doing. People are moving to another platform. Same with Tic Tok and Farcebook. Start wit the shit and lose.

  13. Surely this is an April's Fools joke. Right?

Surely Microsoft can't be that stupid. I mean every attempt that they do to force this gets a massive negative response. No company would do that, right?

Making people dig into their registry and other task to get their computer set up the way they need. This isn't aiding in security. In fact someone can screw something up and  or turn off something that is needed for security.  Every step they are taking is stupid.

I for one is mostly on Linux. I have a computer that i am trying out various distros and programs and such gaining experince and understnading of what I want and how to get it. Linux isn't a once stop shoppng so there is some compromises you need but it is pretty easy for someone that needs basic office and internet stuff to get a quick easy setup ... Linux Mint.  Or perhaps Unbuntu etc. to get really far and intergrate windoze espcially gaming and particuarly online gaming is difficult to impossible.  Reason I currently have a Windows .. yes set up with an online account. first time in history (but all they can really get is my gaming stuff. ) for games. Don't worry, gaming is advancing very fast in Linux. Very fast. There are even distros that setup everyting for you however you do need to still know some stuff to tweak it when problems arrise. (dam. my H key is dying on my keyboard. lol Serves me for keeping a keyboard for years. lol)

  14. my laggy mess was likely a bad download as I had a near complete failure with missing a monitor!  Tried a live CD and it worked well. So instead of wasting hours trying to figure it out, installed a fresh copy. Firefox is still a bit laggy but not bad. Much better and like on m y other potato. lol

20 minutes later a compete system fully updated and some key software installed. I can do this 10 times more and still be less time that a Windows install and update lol. Expecially if you add the software installation in the equations!
