Well, desktop use of Linux has never been its strong point. It usually runs on servers. Also, not sure if it's a fork or not which is being developed totally independently, but Android OS is based on the Linux kernel.

There are issues in the IT industry including software. People have no "respect" they will cuss you out for a minor mistake. Linus did this and admitted to it. There is one thing to tell someone that their work is unacceptable and quite another one to call them names and cuss them out.  That is unprofessional. Of this, there needed to be a change. However, WTF.. that is far from learning professionalism and proper communication and such.

Added note. the developers don't give a flying fuck what you are so long as your code is good. Linus stated that from the very beginning.  You don't need a degree to show or a resume or a CV to show to prove you should be there. Your sample code and work you do is your proof.  That is pretty much as open as you can get.  People from third world countries on shit computers built from garbage tossed out to professionals that work in the industry at Red hat, Windows, Google you name it is equal in the eyes of Linux development.

All that was needed was some sensitivity in not calling someone a fucktard because there is an issue with their code. ;)

Mark my words all that SJW is doing is destroying their cause. Soon people will swing back the other direction with a vengeance and tell them to go fuck themselves. Literally and figuratively and they can go cry in a corner as people will get fed up with all this "inclusion" crap.  Doubt they use a doctor that barily passed their exams and has sub par performance and lots of law suits because "he needs to be included as well" or "he has a right to work" etc. etc. Fucktards.

I somehow doubt that Linus had insulted people for "minor mistakes". Those instances were most likely major issues with the code or with the coding style, or about ideas that were downright stupid. Calling them names may be unprofessional, may be even childish, but keep in mind that empathy goes both ways.

It's what's known as 'Man's World'.  Construction jobs, oil field work, power plants, the military, etc.  Men talk shit to one another and in that world people who waste time are a waste of time.  There isn't any coddling and 'try harder next time'.  When you fuck up and waste someone's time you get your ass chewed out.  And God help you if your mistakes or ineptness fucks up someone else's work.  Linus might be from that world.  It wouldn't surprise me.

Yes, it is that.  That world is dying... and understandable. however, being killed to harbor some sort of all inclusiveness and SJW crap is another thing.  the "Man's world" has been dying since the 80's..

And that's the crux of it right there. There's a little tolerance and margin for error at least during training but if you can't competently perform the job you need to do something else.
The military is a perfect example. You fuck up and other people die.

Depends on how badly you fuckup. If you are generally a fuckup and am able to do some of the most basic things.. they just move you somewhere where they need a body... This way there is less likely that you will cause the death of someone.

The real careers and such in the military you have to have your game on, from the start, develop fast and catch on and keep up.

One thing to be more professional in your interactions and quite another thing to allow anyone, sorry correction, make it so that anyone can do something even if they have no talent or skill to do so.  this "code" is designed to do just this. Not create a more professional work space for coders. .. (still get critiqued and even perhaps ignored if their work is crap)

I forgot to find the article but there was one (I believe RedHat or something like that) that started following and implementing this .. (volunteer mind you, not forced)  and once she started here shit.. they saw it for what it was and then implemented their own policy and got rid of that bull shit.

As if to perfectly illustrate that point I occasionally take on stagehand work for the local Union. Worked the load-in at the Justin Timberlake show this morning. Was on the crew that built the stage. There was a young woman on our crew. She didn't complain, she didn't bitch and she hustled as fast as the rest of us did.
BUT she did not have the physical strength required for the job. At one point we were unloading, carrying and installing the decking that make up the stage floor. She could not hold up her end of the panels. Even had one guy get a finger mashed because the decking they were placing slipped out of her hand. Ended up having to dedicate an extra hand to help her carry the panels.
This slows down the job. Maybe it doesn't seem like a big deal but it adds up. Plus she's going to sooner or later injure herself or someone else and that is a big problem.
You can't tell her in today's world that she can't do it or you'll be all but led to the hangman's noose. But she can't do the job. What's the compromise?

The lead of your crew should have realized that someone was short... that is unable to or might be unable to do some of the task and stepped in and made arrangements for the coverage for this short...  Now a days this is what you do when this happens. It could be  a male that is not able to handle that (older male) but is able to do 80~90 % of the rest of the work. Same thing.

There are times when you will be short (manpower) or short (in ability be it noobs to the job or older members that have put in their time) in any case, you make due and arrangements to make the job as smooth AND SAFE as possible. There are things he could have done.. (likely you might even be able to think of some) that would have covered this.

It is only a problem if you want to be a Supreme Court Judge... or something like that.  ;) lol.

And good thing too. If things get so bad that I end up in a position of authority, we are all fucked!

I don't know who's more pathetic, his daughter who's obsessed with her eyebrows, or him, needing to rant about it...  but it would be tragic if he hit and injure someone while ranting and driving like an idiot...
